PHARMACOTHERAPEUTIC ACTION:
The combination of hydrochloric acid, pepsin and wormwood, fennel, rosemary and juniper tincture is an important digestive aid for the stomach.
Hydrochloric acid is required for protein digestion (it turns pepsinogen into pepsin, and maintains the pH needed for the proteolytic action of pepsin; it promotes iron and calcium absorption, and ensures the acid pH needed to prevent the growth of bacteria in the stomach and influences intestinal and pancreatic secretion.
Pepsin is an enzyme product consisting of proteolytic enzymes from the fresh stomach lining of cattle or pigs. Pepsin exhibits maximum activity in an acidic environment at a pH ranging between 1 and 2, and helps digestion by digesting nutrients together with other proteases removed by the endocrine glands.
Woodworm (Artemisia absinthium) has an antibacterial, tonic and moisturizing action. It is used as a stimulant for gastric secretions, as an anti-inflammatory for the gastrointestinal mucosa, as an anthelmintic, antidiarrheal and laxative and in gastric hypotonia.
Fennel (Feoeniculum vulgare) has antispasmodic and carminative action; it stimulates lactation secretion; it fluidizes bronchial secretions. Thanks to the essential oil, it acts as an antiseptic, antispasmodic, carminative, diuretic-depurative, expectorant, laxative, orexogenic, splenic, stomachic tonic and vermifuge.
Juniper (Juniperus communis) has diuretic, digestive, carminative antiseptic, stomachic and anti-rheumatic action.
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) has eupeptic, antiseptic, digestive, stomachic, balsamic, antispasmodic, sudorific, diuretic, emmenagogic and hypertensive action. It is a good carminative in the digestive system. The properties of rosemary are thanks to the essential oil that gives bacteriostatic, tonic-stimulating and inotrope inactive properties and to the content of polyphenols and terpenes that are effective antioxidants. Rosemary has cholecystokinetic properties of stimulation of the digestive functions and regulation of the symbiotic gut bacterial flora.
