Indications:
Imodium is part of the group of anti-diarrheal, anti-inflammatory/intestinal antiseptic being an anti-propulsive.
In case of diarrhea, Imodium makes the stools more consistent and less frequent. You can use
Imodium for a sudden (acute) episode of diarrhea or long-lasting (chronic) diarrhea. You may also be prescribed Imodium if you have had part of your intestine removed, as this can often cause diarrhoea.
Method of administration:
The dose of Imodium you need to use will depend on your age and the type of diarrhea.
Imodium is available as capsules to swallow.
You can use Imodium at any time during the day.
The capsules must be swallowed with a quantity of liquid.
Use in adults (including the elderly), children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years
- for a sudden (acute) episode, take 2 Imodium capsules once, then 1 Imodium capsule after each bowel movement. If you have a solid or hard stool or if 24 hours pass without a stool, stop the treatment.
- for long-term (chronic) diarrhoea, the exact dose will be established together with your doctor, but do not take more than 8 Imodium capsules within 24 hours.
Use in children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years:
- for a sudden (acute) episode, take 1 Imodium capsule once, then continue with 1 Imodium capsule after every chair removed. If the child has a solid or hard stool or if 24 hours pass without a stool, stop the treatment.
- for long-lasting (chronic) diarrhoea, the exact dose will be established together with your doctor, but never administer more than the recommended dose per day and per kilogram of your child's body weight (3 capsules/20 kg which must not exceed a maximum of 8 capsules per day).
Use in children and adolescents:
There are limited data on use in children under 12 years of age.
Imodium is not for use in children under 2 years of age.
