Protecardin is for use in adults.

Protecardin contains acetylsalicylic acid as its active substance.
Acetylsalicylic acid (Protecardine) belongs to a group of med called antiplatelet agents. Protecardin works by preventing blood cells called platelets (or platelets) from aggregating (or sticking) and thus preventing blood clots (thrombi).

Due to this effect Protecardin is used to:
- prevent recurrence of myocardial infarction and stroke (transient ischemic and cerebral infarction);
- reducing the risk of myocardial infarction in patients with angina pectoris (known as chronic painful ischaemic heart disease), or with multiple risk factors such as hypertension, increased blood lipids (hypercholesterolaemia), smoking, diabetes mellitus and family history;
- maintaining blood circulation in the blood vessels of the heart after certain surgeries (vascular surgery, percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty, coronary artery bypass).

Important: Protecardin is not intended to treat pain or fever;

Dosage:

For long-term treatment, the usual dose is 1–2 gastroresistant tablets Protecardin 75 mg once daily.
In short-term treatment, on the recommendation of the treating physician, in acute coronary syndrome or ischemic stroke, higher doses up to 300 mg acetylsalicylic acid may be appropriate. Treatment will then continue at the recommended dose for long-term treatment.

Paediatric population:
Protecardin should not be used in children and adolescents.
